French pewter cups were marked with what may be the names of the owners. The two-handled pewter porringer, or equelle, shown at left, bore both a maker’s mark, “IOP, as well as an illegible name scratched on the bottom (see bottom of porringer). The maker’s mark appears to be bisected by a tree. The wine taster at right bears the enscribed name, C. Barange, possibly the name of the man whose remains were found in the bow of the boat.
