A mitote, or native dance, as drawn by Fray Vincente de Santa Maria. This highly stylized scene depicts Apaches and Comanches in childlike form dancing around two apparent prisoners next to the fire. Spanish disdain for native peoples was expressed in their art and in written accounts.
