Stratum 8: Red Sand

Click on any layer to explore.

Situated in the back half of the shelter, this stratum has a maximum thickness of about 3 feet. It appears to have been truncated in several areas. Most of this stratum is clean reddish river sand containing only scant occupational debris. This is largely contained within three thin occupation lenses. This stratum has been divided into four sub-strata, Stratum 8 being that red sand above, below, and in between Sub-Strata 8A, 8B, and 8C. Sub-Stratum 8D (Red-White Spotted) is a deep deposit located toward the front of shelter, or east of the others.
