| For Indians who lived near streams, rivers, and on the coast, fish were an important food source. In prehistoric times, however, fish were not prepared the same way we do today (there were no "three-piece fried fish combos!") One easy way Indians could prepare fish was to dry them in the sun. After a few days the fish would be dry and full of insects (including maggots) and ready to eat (bugs and all). The bugs were a free source of protein that came with no extra cost! |
