The McKinney Roughs site lies within the Gilmore Corridor, a hypothesized interchange route linking the settled farming peoples of North American Eastern Woodlands with the "high civilizations" of Mesoamerica. Although no direct evidence of trade or distant connections was documented at the McKinney Roughs site, its location near the ancient trail suggests that the peoples who camped there would have been aware of, and perhaps in some ways connected to, far away cultures.
