WPA period photograph of a variety of engraved bone and antler artifacts recovered from the Morhiss site. The first two artifacts are bone awls, the third artifact is a fragment of an engraved deer metapodial awl, and the fourth artifact is a spatulate engraved segment of deer antler. Note the similarity of engraved designs on the last two artifacts. Similar engraved bone artifacts have been recovered as grave goods in other Middle and Late Archaic cemeteries such as Ernest Witte. |
