Killough Pinched Jar
Omar and Otis Hood Site (41CE14)
ca. 1400-1650 A.D

Height = 14 cm
Mouth Diameter = 10cm

The four legs of this peculiar jar rest on a circular base. The vessel also has two strap handles on opposing sides. The main design element consists of spirals made with fingernail impressions on wet clay. These spirals are repeated four times. Vertical lines formed by fingernail punctations occur around the rim and on the four legs.

The vessel comes from a site in Cherokee County, Texas that was excavated by a crew from the University of Texas in November and December of 1935 under the direction of A. M. Woolsey. The site was discovered by road grading operation followed by rain. The pot was removed from burial AQ16, which contained a total of 11 ceramic vessels. No stone tools were present. There were no skeletal remains present.
