San Francisco, one of the key Patarabuey pueblos of La Junta visited many times by the Spanish. In 1714 Trasvina y Retis recorded it as being the home of the Posalmes nation with a population of 180. The ancient village of San Francisco (and modern community of the same name) is situated on the high terrace (or pediment remnant) visible in the background across the flat floodplain of the Río Conchos. This photo was taken by Steve Black from Ojinaga looking west.
