San Francisco, one of the La Junta pueblos named and visited many times by the Spanish, is one of many La Junta sites that have never seen archeological investigation. The ancient village (and modern community of the same name) is situated on the high terrace (or pediment remnant) visible in the background across the flat floodplain of the Río Conchos. This photo was taken by Steve Black from Ojinaga looking west.
