Texas Beyond History is rich in information and resources to help you teach about the past in Texas, using archeology as a lens for discovery. In this section are lesson plans for both elementary and secondary grades based on the objectives of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and the related Texas Assessment of Academic Skills (TAAS) and Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS).
All of these lesson plans were written by experienced teachers or consultants. Each lesson can be downloaded and printed for easy use in class. There's also a Guide to help you find additional resources on TBH, based on a variety of topics. Welcome to the fun and excitement of teaching focused on Texas' cultural heritage, archeology, and other subjects!
Don't miss the Kids Only pages where you and your students will find a wealth of educational games and interactives, many led by Dr. Dirt, The Armadillo Archeologist. The new Research section will guide your students through the mysteries of research and report writing, using TBH as a resource. Finally, be sure to check out the newest exhibits and K-12 resources on the Texas Coastal Prairies and Marshlands region, including a fun, educational tour of the Belle Shipwreck with Dr. Dirt, and a lesson on "Finding Clues from Old Bones"!
