Iron oxides of varying quantities provide natural red and yellow hues to these raw clays collected from river- and creek-bank deposits on the Edwards Plateau. With the addition of a tempering agent, such as crushed bone, and water, clay was transformed by native potters into jars, bowls, bottles and other earthenware forms.
