Patterns of the Past

Archeologists have learned a great deal about how prehistoric peoples adapted to their environment. Less is known about their rituals and ceremonies, such as burial of the dead. In this reconstructed scene of a burial at the Loma Sandia cemetery in south Texas, you will see how various objects might have been used. Clicking on the object brings up photos of the actual artifacts from the site and other prehistoric cemeteries that have helped archeologists and others understand the past.
